A few people we’ve been hoping to find.
Part of rebuilding this archive has been working backward through old forum threads, journal entries, and chat logs to figure out who Vanessa was closest to, and who she was sending her music to at the time. A handful of names keep coming up: phone friends, forum friends, fellow bedroom DJs. People she traded songs and burned CDs with twenty years ago.
We’ve listed them below by the usernames they went by back then, because that’s how they’d recognize themselves. If one of these is you, or someone you know, please reach out. There’s no pressure and nothing owed. Even just hearing from you would mean a lot, whether or not you still have any of her music.

How we’re going about this
Nobody here is trying to track anyone down. The goal is the opposite: to put these old names somewhere they can be found, so that if one of these people ever wonders whatever happened to that girl who made the music, or searches an old handle out of curiosity, they land here instead of nowhere.
Everything on these pages comes from things that were already public at the time, in the years Vanessa knew them: forum posts, journal entries, the small details people used to share about themselves online. If you see your own old handle here and would rather it not be listed, email hello@vanessathemusician.com and it will be taken down the same day. No explanation needed.
Even a single burned CD would mean the world.
An old MP3, a saved chat log, a CD in a drawer, or just a memory. There’s no pressure and nothing to prove. If you were part of Vanessa’s world, we’d love to hear from you.
